Anna. 26 year old from Philadelphia, PA with a passion for going places and writing about them. I've loved to write my entire life; I was obsessed with documenting my every experience and still have almost all of my journals, starting when I was 8. I basically thought I was Harriet the Spy.
Writing helps me make sense of everything; it keeps me curious, searching for answers, open-minded and excited. And I've found that traveling does all of this for me too. I feel lucky to have met Rach at Loyola, someone who shares my exact same love of travel and documenting experiences. Our desire to long-term travel started when we both lived abroad in Rome, Italy together our junior fall semester. We loved experiencing new cultures and meeting so many different kinds of people.
I moved into Philadelphia after graduating Loyola in 2012, and worked at a public relations agency for four years. I loved my job and the people I worked with, but this lingering need to travel never left my mind. I would take trips here and there: a cross-country roadtrip from PA to WA (that involved VERY close encounters with wildlife), a surf trip through Costa Rica, 10 days in Zurich, Vienna and Prague (with Rach!). All were amazing but never seemed long enough. I started writing about my travels on my blog Anna Idler Writes, and was a freelance writer for a couple local publications on the side of my job, and slowly I started to realize travel writing was what I wanted to do full-time.
In 2015, Rachel and I made the decision to buy a one-way ticket to Europe and follow our dream. We are so happy, and are so appreciative of family, friends, and colleagues for their support and enthusiasm through our planning of this trip. Thank you for following our journey!
Rachel. 26 year old from New York (but originally from New Jersey) with a severe addiction for tacos. Travel has always been my one true love in life. From a young age I always loved going on the long road trips to grandmas house or flying cross country to California to see family. As I've gotten older and made a little bit of my own money, the destinations have grown more and more elaborate (last year I visited Iceland with my two sisters and dad, visited 14 new US cities, made a cross country trip down the western side of the US and this year I went on a recent trip to Cuba with my bf).
After graduating college and moving to the city, I've really learned to evaluate how I spend my money (as the rent ain't cheap in NY), and there was nothing I wanted to spend my money on more than travel and new experiences. The first couple years out of college I'd take long weekend trips and a week long trip here or there, but it was never quite enough for me. They say travel is like a drug and words couldn't be more true. The more I'd see, the more I wanted. So I knew long-term travel was the only option.
Anna and I have been travel buddies for a while. We became fast friends our freshman year at college and studied abroad together in Rome our junior year. Ever since then, our shared love of travel has bonded us even closer. This trip was something we both wanted and we knew we had to make it a reality. So after 9 months of living back at home with the parents, saving every single penny, sacrificing nights out and working side babysitting/dogsitting jobs, we're finally ready to go. We're so excited to share this journey with you!
